Vision or hallucination? Execution is key: FOUR PAWS' Statement on the Vision for Agriculture
Commenting on today's publication of the Commission's Vision for Agriculture
BRUSSELS – Commenting today on the publication of the Commission's Vision for Agriculture, Joe Moran, Director of FOUR PAWS' European Policy Office said:
"The vision presented today by Commissioner Hansen is excellent, encouraging and exciting in equal measure. Citizens and farmers have been wanting to hear these words for years, that production standards on animal welfare must be applied to imports.
Furthermore, the re-confirmation that we will see new proposals to advance animal welfare standards during this term is a relief, including the assurance that the prior Commission's promise to end the cage age will be honoured.
After the disappointment of not seeing further proposals on animal welfare last term, we are naturally eager to get on and ensure that what has been outlined today is ultimately delivered. Making this vision a reality is therefore crucial. As Thomas Edison said, "a vision without execution is just hallucination". Let's hope this time, therefore, we can truly believe what our eyes are seeing."
